How to Get Rid of Skunks

There are many reasons why people find ways and research how to get rid of skunks.  Although many times when the are limited to wooded areas and areas without a lot of inhabitants, they don’t pose many problems.  They tend to stick by themselves and stay out of the way of humans.  However, as humans build homes, stores, and office buildings in areas where skunks live, they can be quite a nuisance.  If threatened by dogs and other animals, they will spray, and the odor can be quite difficult to get rid of.  Additionally, it is not unheard of for skunks to have rabies, which can pose risks to humans and their pets.

The easies way to get rid of skunks is to remove anything that they may find attractive.  The will feed on fruits and vegetables, so care should be taken to put fencing around garden areas.  Additionally, fruit (dropped from fruit trees) should be frequently cleared from the surrounding yard.  The backyard should be cleared of areas where skunks can nest and hide.  These includes overgrown shrubbery and bushes, stacked firewood, and underneath decks and porches.

Skunks don’t like sonar noise.  Buy electronic pest repellers.  There are a lot to choose from.

If there are skunks inhabiting an area, there are several ways to get rid of them.  They can be trapped, and there are several traps built especially for this purpose.  When a person is choosing a trap, it is preferable to choose a plastic trap, as it is completely enclosed and there is less chance of a person getting sprayed by the skunk when the trap is removed.  It can be quite challenging to trap a skunk, so it is recommended that if a person has no experience with wildlife, they hire an expert to set and empty the traps.

If a person has skunks under their deck or porch, they can attempt to use ammonia to drive the skunk from an area.  Ammonia is easy to find, fairly inexpensive, and easy for anyone to use.  When a person is evaluating the ways of how to get rid of skunks, ammonia is a method which should be considered and used with care.
