How to Get Rid of Gum in Your Carpet

Whether you have kids, or you’re simply careless while chewing gum, getting gum in your carpet can be more than a pain, it can ruin your carpet, which is why knowing how to get rid of gum in your carpet is a good tool to have. Removing gum from your carpet is not something that should freak you out in any way! It doesn’t matter if the gum is freshly chewed or has been sitting in the carpet for several days, there are still ways to get it out! You have a couple of options with fresh chewed gum, both of which involve freezing the gum and then pulling it off. Simply point the nozzle at the gum and spray in spurts until frozen. Once it’s frozen, pull the gum off of the carpet and then clean the stain that probably remains. If you don’t have a canned air spray, then you will need some ice cubes and a baggie. Place the ice in a baggie just like you would do for an injury, and then lay it on the gum on the caret. Once the gum is frozen, pull off the gum and clean remaining stain. Knowing how to get rid of gum in your carpet that has been around for a while is a good idea as well. Again, you will have a couple of options, both of which are related to heating the gum. The first option, and by far the easiest because it also focuses on the gum stain that is left on the carpet, is using a steamer. There are several different types of steamers on the market, but you do want to choose one that gets hot without spitting a lot of water. Focus the steam on the gum and watch it melt away. You should have a spray carpet cleaner handy to spray on the stain and then wipe it up. The other option is to use a blow drier and direct it at the gum. The downside to this is that it’s easy to burn the carpet with a blow drier, so you have to use a lot of caution. Once the gum melts, use a carpet cleaner and hot rag to clean up the mess. Regardless of what type of carpet you have, getting gum in the carpet can leave quite a mess.
