How to Get Rid of Carpet Dents

Have you decided to rearrange your furniture only to realize that you have dents in the carpet where the furniture was? This is common and often leaves homeowners wondering “how to get rid of carpet dents” since vacuuming alone simply does not take out the dents. The good news is that you can remove the dents with what you have in your home right now and these dents can be removed so that your carpet looks just like it did before with no hint of dents.

There are a few options you can use to remove carpet dents, these include:

Spray Bottle

First, If you have wool or nylon carpeting, use a clean empty spray bottle and fill it with clean water. Spray the dented area well, but do not soak it. Next, use your hairdryer to dry the area you just sprayed. If you have settings on the hairdryer, place it on the highest setting. Once it has thoroughly dried, use your fingers and pull the fibers straight. You might wish to run a vacuum over the areas at this point to make it look natural.

Ice Cube Method

While this might sound a little strange, it really does work on all types of fiber carpets. Take a few ice cubes and place them directly in the dents. You will want to leave the cubes undisturbed until they melt into the carpet. Once the ice cubes have melted, use a brush, butter knife, spoon, or anything that has a hard edge that will not cause damage to the carpet fibers. What you want do is use it to fluff the carpet back up – you can also use your fingers. Vacuum thoroughly to truly make the carpet dents look normal again.

Steam Clean

If you do not wish to spray the water or use the ice cube method, you can use a steam cleaner and this will pull up the dents in the carpet. This is a good method to use if you had planned on having your carpets cleaned anyway.

Regardless of the method you use, how to get rid of carpet dents is not as hard as you may have thought. It can be accomplished with just water or ice.
